Turves Solar farm
Abbey Renewables have gained planning for a 5MW Solar Farm to the south of Turves, Cambridgeshire. The scheme will utilise the suns energy to generate up to 5 megawatts of green energy, enough to support up to 1,200 homes.
We are currently working on the development of the project and aim to build the scheme in 2012.
The development of Turves Solar Farm will involve the installation of solar panels, which will generate green energy without any noise or pollution by converting irradiation from the sun into electrical energy. The site covers around 14 hectares (35 acres) and would be surrounded by a secure fence and landscaping.
The solar panels are mounted on fixed frames facing to the south, and are low profile extending to only 2.2 metres above ground level. Each row of panels would be set around 8 metres apart to prevent overshadowing each other, and the land in between can be cultivated as a hay crop or used for grazing livestock.
The scheme is proposed to be in situ for at least 25 years and can produce electricity for 35 years or more. The installation of the panels requires simple piled foundations, and the land can be easily restored back to its full agricultural use.
